ISAR Conference 2009

Lunchtime Lecture Series

If you can't get enough of the great presentations during the regular sessions, you can take advantage of the Lunchtime Lecture Series. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a group of five concurrent lectures each day will be presented during the lunch break. The lectures run from 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm, allowing you time for lunch and then a lecture. The difficulty will be in choosing which lecture you want to attend!

Friday, Aug. 21: Lunchtime Lecture Series

1:15 PM - 2:00 PM (lectures run concurrently):

  • Kathleen Cantwell
    A Second Look at Ceres
Science has suddenly made Ceres just as important as Pluto. As astrologers, we all know that only a fool would ignore the potency of Pluto, and its recent demotion hasn't taken the wallop out of a Pluto transit. So is Ceres now an equal cosmic heavy? While it seems unlikely, green is in and oil is on its way out. It's time to re-examine Ceres' role in society and our individual lives.

  • Frances Clynes
    Uranus and the Cartesian Split
Rene Descartes' famous statement "I think, therefore I am" represents the essence of the Cartesian Split, a dualism between mind and body. Descartes has been accused of setting the intellect above the body and causing a wound in the human psyche. This lecture looks at his chart and the role of Uranus in the Enlightenment, the relationship between Uranus and reason, and the part it plays in the split between mind and body.

  • Carmen Freire
The Mythology and Jung's Theories in Asteroids Interpretation
From the Joseph Campbell research and the theories of the Collective Unconscious of Carl Jung the symbolism and explanations give us one of the most interesting and greatest explanations about the use of asteroids in the interpretation of the birth chart.

  • Debra Rozek
    Medical Astrology - Surgical Elections
Electional Astrology for surgeries holds the potential to improve outcomes and save lives. I will present the rules for surgical elections and how I applied them to choose the date for my successful kidney transplant. We'll also examine natal chart indicators for kidney disease in several charts, and correlate secondary progressions and transits to the progression of this disease.

  • Lynn Staudacher
Forecasting Tools: From Pre-Birth to Progressions
In attempting to forecast for a client, I use a funnel approach of big picture to smallest details. Those techniques include: Pre-birth Solar Eclipse; Lifetime Progressed Declinations; Lifetime Planets changing sign, going retro or direct; Movement of the Secondary and Tertiary Progressed Moon. We'll work with sample charts to illustrate.

Saturday, Aug. 22: Lunchtime Lecture Series

1:15 PM - 2:00 PM (lectures run concurrently):

  • Jef Bartow
Removing the Veil on Our Life, Soul and Spiritual Cycles
Integrating Rudhyar's process-oriented astrology with C.G. Jung's process of individuation and metaphysics' spiritual Path of Initiation reveals a way to go beyond transits and progressions in interpreting various cycles of life. The mandala of the astrology chart becomes the blueprint in understanding and interpreting how we humans progress as personalities, incarnating souls and later step onto a spiritual cycle to Mastery.

  • MaryFrances Clinton
Your Chart In Your Chakras: Personal Planet Energy Centers
We all know which planets and signs are "at home" in the twelve houses of our charts. But you can know even more! Each of your chakras is also "home" to one of your planet energies. Exactly as it's configured in your chart, you feel and use the special energy of that chakra's "home" planet. Bring your chart to explore your personal transformation of universal planetary energy into the uniquely individual energy you amazingly are!

  • John Dawson
    Can "Histrologers" Solve Historical Questions?
The majority of historians dismiss any historical work by astrologers as "superstitious rubbish." However, if historians would look at what astrologers have written in the past, then I believe some historical questions could be explained. Using case studies this talk will attempt to prove that these events had an astrological basis and give an alternative theory as to when and why these events happened.

  • Joseph Landwehr
Why Astrology is Not a Science
Many in the astrological community seek acceptance by the scientific world. But there are sound philosophical reasons why astrology cannot rightfully be considered a science, and should more accurately be understood as a language of symbolic logic. As a symbolic language, astrology is a way of knowing different from and complementary to science. This lecture will explore this vision of astrology, and outline the advantages to be had in presenting ourselves in this way.

  • Dusty Park
    Age of the Neptune Return
By the time of the ISAR 2009 convention Neptune will have made its return to its discovery degree twice (the 1st and the retro conjunctions) at 25AQ52. My lecture will demonstrate a significant anomaly in the Neptune return. In it I will share my insights about the incredibly pervasive influence of Neptune in the world today and offer insight into the relationship of the Neptune return to the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012.

Sunday, Aug. 23: Lunchtime Lecture Series

1:15 PM - 2:00 PM (lectures run concurrently):

  • Victoria Flanagan
The Hollywood Oracle: How Films Can Inform Astrological Transits
The audience will be guided to an understanding of what a film represents astrologically. Dissecting the themes, plotlines and characters of a few movies, we will reveal the astrological signifier for each. Then we will examine what the film might be commenting upon or even predicting about that period of time or transit. In addition, we will explore which outer events on a global or national scale might align with the themes of that film.

  • Kelley Hunter
Psycho-Spiritual Dimensions of the Cosmic Feminine
In our 21st century renaissance, the divine feminine is re-awakening -- in our consciousness, in the dynamic activity of planet Earth and in world politics. As indicated by her enduring presence in popular arts and culture, LILITH continues to be one of the most persistent and seductive feminine archetypes. Often seen as dark and demonic, the transformative power of Lilith is inherently spiritual. Astrologically we have four Liliths that illumine the path of the cosmic feminine.

  • Zorica Ilievski
Persephonae -- A Prisoner or a Mistress of the Underworld
Goddess Persephonae transformed from an innocent and abducted young lady to a queen of the underworld. While she can bring difficulties and harsh experiences, she also offers potential for evolution. As she guides women through periods of hopelessness and big changes that lead to new beginnings, a nice little girl can grow up to be a wise woman who knows secrets of life and death and who can help others pass through similar experiences.

  • Kenneth Miller
Pluto's Weird History: Dumb Luck, Dumb Note, Dumbbell
An Astrological Rags to Riches story! How did little Pluto go from being a difficult-to-detect chart influence to being the most feared planet in the solar system? And no, this will not be another lecture on Plutonian myths; we will do some myth-busting as we study this "real life" rags-to-riches story. Pluto is keeping secrets even from you; find out just what the skeletons are in Pluto's closet!

  • Kay Taylor
    Psychosynthesis in Astrological Counseling
When we explain hard planetary aspects to clients, they may integrate the energies or they may continue to feel stuck and unable to change. Psychosynthesis, a spiritual psychology rich with inner processes, can help integrate aspects at a deep level, as the conflicts of subpersonalities correlate beautifully to planets and signs in hard aspect to each other. Empathic awareness combined with simple dialogues can shift consultations from information to integration.
